The Golden Touch of Nokia 6700 Classic Gold Edition
The world's leader in mobile phones has just unveiled a phone that is probably more suited to celebrate a more prosperous era than we have today. But no one can blame them for greeting the New Year with something outlandish and extravagant ' like an 18k gold finish candybar handset in the Nokia 6700 Classic Gold Edition.
This is basically the highly popular Nokia 6700 Classic we've known for quite some time. But it gets better with more bling and a more socially upscale statement. Nokia admits designing a handset that can impress with both looks and price. Notwithstanding the troubled economic times we've had, Nokia's venture into extravagance may be a signal of good tidings this coming year.
Features
To distinguish itself from the more pedestrian Nokia 6700 Classic, the Gold Edition has a steel navigational key mat and some classy wallpapers, Other than that, it's every inch the Nokia 6700 Classic. It's the same candybar handset measuring 109.8 x 45 x 11 mm and weighing 116.5 grams. A look at the weight data suggests the gold cladding must be so negligible as its weight remains unchanged.
Running on the Symbian S40 6th Edition platform, the Gold Edition is the same quad band GSM/EDGE/GPRS on 2G and a tri band UMTS/3G with HSDPA/HSDPA high speed data connectivity for a no-wait downloading and browsing. Online, there's no WiFi but you get Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR for fast data connectivity with other Bluetooth devices. There's also a built-in GPS receiver.
There's the relatively modest 2.2' TFT LCD display with QVGA resolution and supporting 16 million colors that benefits from a gravity accelerometer for auto-rotate viewing orientation with the tilt of the handset. It also has a light ambient sensor to automatically adjust display brightness according to ambient light.
Imaging is one of the best among mobile phones at any price point. It features a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, 4X digital zoom, VGA video recording at 15fps. Multimedia features start with the usual media players for the popular audio and video formats, a stereo FM radio with RDS, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP for wireless stereo earphones and a standard 3.5mm jack for regular headsets.
Other features include micro USB 2.0, a noise cancellation features and a microSD slot supporting up to 16 GB to augment it 170 MB internal memory. Its 970mAh battery delivers the same 5 hours of talk times and 12 days in standby time.
